Leo Thompson
Leo Thompson, 100, died Sunday August 23, 2009 in Hilton Head, SC.

Born in Trenton and raised surf casting along the Jersey Shore, he was a resident of New Jersey until moving to Hilton Head 10 years ago. Well-traveled, well-educated and extremely well-read, Mr. Thompson was an incredible source of knowledge on almost anything that flew, swam, walked or crawled. And could recite all of the counties in New Jersey well into his 90's.

During the Depression, Mr. Thompson worked at Penn Station in New York. He went on to spend over 30 years at General Motors in Trenton, before retiring in 1965. An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Thompson spent much of his retirement hunting and fishing The Great Northwest, including several summers in Alaska. He took his last pheasant hunting trip to South Dakota at the age of 84, where to the surprise of his grandson, he could "still really knock 'em down."

A member of the Audubon Society, he also enjoyed singing in the church choir, square dancing and raising hunting dogs.

Husband of the late Mary and the late Caroline, father of the late Celeste Durkee, he is survived by his daughter, Patricia McManimon of AZ; 8 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

A memorial mass will be celebrated Monday September 7 at 10am at the Church of the Incarnation, Pennington Road, Ewing.

Local arrangements under the direction of the M. William Murphy Funeral Home, 935 Parkway Ave., Ewing.
