Mary A. (Haney) Scheideler
Mary A. (Haney) Scheideler, 69, of Whiting passed away Friday at Fox Chase Cancer Center, Philadelphia, PA.

Born in Trenton, Mary attended Blessed Sacrament School, Notre Dame High School and graduated from Ewing High School. At both schools she was active in singing and dramatics, and at Ewing, she had a leading role in the school play, “English Without Tears.”

Mary received an Associate in Fine Arts degree from Trenton Junior College (now Mercer County College), and a nursing degree from the same institution. She later served as a Medical Review Analyst for the State Department of Health and Senior Services, and was proud of her early participation in the development of the Pharmaceutical Assistance to the Aged and Disabled program and in developing and implementing the coordination of private health insurance with federal and state health care programs.

She retired from state employment in 1990 for health reasons, and thereafter commenced an exceptionally productive retirement, taking her family to live and work in a variety of interesting locales. The family moved to Key West, Florida in 1993, where her children attended school and she and husband Richard became active in local political affairs. Later, the family moved to Appomattox, Virginia, where they continued their active involvement in public activities. More recently, with their children grown and with their family roots in New Jersey, they moved back to Whiting, NJ, to be close their family.
Mary loved to travel and to entertain friends.

In work, school and later in her favorite pastime, camping, she and her family made numerous friends and enjoyed the hospitality of the campground communities in Ocean County, New Jersey, throughout Florida and, most recently, in Thornburg, Virginia. In pursuing that interest, she and the family traveled throughout the Eastern Seaboard, and acquired a seemingly endless supply of camping vehicles and campsites, which she generously shared with her friends and family.

Mary’s greatest pride, and the source of her constant concern, was her family. She raised five children, and her trials and triumphs arose entirely within the family. Mary always remained close to her New Jersey roots, and especially her Maley family cousins.

She and the rest of this generation have aimed to continue in the Maley family tradition of mutual and unquestioning support.

Daughter of the late Charles J. and Helen R. Maley Haney, she is survived by her loving husband, Richard Scheideler; children, Mary Elisha (Mollis) and husband Timothy McShea of Hopewell, Chris Mollis of Pennington, Heather (Scheideler) and husband Richard Spoto of Bordentown, Rachel Scheideler of Austin, TX and Darin Scheideler and fiancée Dawn Bernhardt of Bordentown; grandchildren, Jasmine, Amanda, Tommy, Connor and Richard; two brothers, Charles W. Haney and wife Veronica of Appomattox, VA and Robert J. Haney and wife Gail of Ewing; also, nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends on Saturday March 23rd from 11:00AM to 1:00PM at the M. William Murphy Funeral Home, 935 Parkway Ave., Ewing, NJ 08618.

Funeral services will begin at 1PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of the United States @ HSUS, 2100 L Street, NW, Washington, DC 20037 or www.humanesociety.org
