Reverend James E. Coley
Reverend James E. Coley, 91, passed away on Monday at St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center, Lawrenceville.

Fr. Coley attended LaSalle College, Philadelphia and Immaculate Conception Seminary, Darlington, NJ.

He was ordained on May 31, 1947 in St. Mary’s Cathedral by the Most Reverend William A. Griffin, Bishop of Trenton.

Fr. Coley was appointed associate pastor of Sacred Heart, New Brunswick (1947-49), Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Highlands (1949-51), St. John the Evangelist, Dunellen (1951-59), Holy Angels, Trenton (1958-63) and Sacred Heart, Riverton (1963-65). He was appointed pastor of St. John’s, Allentown (1965-67), Christ the King, Manville (1967-69), Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Maple Shade (1969-73), St. Ann, Hampton (1973-81) and Sacred Heart, Riverton (1981-90). Additional assignments included Chaplain of Rider College; Diocesan Liturgical Commission; Burlington Region PTA Moderator; Associate Director Office of the Diaconate; Vocation Director for Somerset County; Member of Continuing Education Committee and the Liaison for Retired Priests. In addition, he wrote weekly articles for The Monitor and inaugurated the Radio Program “Catechism Comes to Life”. Fr. Coley retired in 1990.

The Rite of Reception will be Friday 6pm at the Chapel of the Holy Rosary, Morris Hall, 1 Bishops Drive, Lawrenceville. Visiting will be until 7pm when the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment in St. John’s Cemetery will be Saturday.
