Mary Halsey Hines
Mary Halsey Hines, 83, a long-time resident of Trenton died Thursday, May 9, 2013 at her home in State College, PA.
Born August 7, 1929, in Trenton NJ, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Helen Howarth Hines.
Sister of the late Janet Gunzenhauser, she is survived by one sister, Ellen J. Nagy and her husband, Carl Dennis Nagy, of State College, PA; one brother, Edward E. Hines and his wife, Ginger, of West Melbourne, FL.; many beloved nieces and nephews to whom she was devoted; and several cousins, including Trenton area residents Regina Howarth Butterer, Joan Dunphy O’Connor and Marie Brandbergh Malloy.
Mary was a 1947 graduate of Trenton High School. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Rider College in 1950. She was an elementary school teacher in the Trenton School District for 27 years, and taught at Cook, Stokes and Cadwalader elementary schools.
She was a long-time member of the Central Jersey Genealogy Club.
Mary is remembered fondly by several generations of former students for her kindness, patience, and dedication. She has also served as the glue that holds together her extended family, keeping up connections, documenting notable activities with her movie cameras, and maintaining a strong sense of family.
Visitation will be from 9:00 -10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at M. William Murphy Funeral Home, 1863 Hamilton Avenue, Trenton, NJ. Funeral services will be at 10:30AM at the funeral home, with the Deacon Jeff Pierfy officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Trenton, NJ.
