James J. Murphy, Jr.
James J. Murphy, Jr., 89, of Ewing passed away Saturday at Capital Health System – Hopewell.
Born in Trenton, he was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Murphy was a postal clerk with the US Postal Service in Trenton and later Robbinsville, retiring in 1986 after a 37-year career.
A US Navy veteran of WWII, he was a 60-year communicant at Incarnation-St. James and served as an usher for more than 40 years. Mr. Murphy played quoits with the Mercer County Steel Quoit League and pool at Hollowbrook Senior Center.
Son of the late Catherine Purtell and James J. Murphy, Sr., husband of the late Claire M. Murphy, father of the late Thomas (who died as an infant), brother of the late Marilyn M. Madola, he is survived by his son, Michael J. Murphy of Ewing; his two daughters, Mary Beth Murphy of Ewing and Anne Marie Murphy of Washington DC; his niece, Kathy Madola; his nephew, Steve Madola and his wife Margaret.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 8 – 10AM at the M. William Murphy Funeral Home, 935 Parkway Ave., Ewing. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30AM at Incarnation Church, Ewing. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hamilton.
