Regina E. Matyi
Hamilton - Regina E. Matyi, 89, passed away in Hospice Care at Hamilton Continuing Care on Sunday, April 27, 2014.
Born in Bremen, Germany to Heinrich and Carola (Stockler) Meyer, Regina emigrated to Hamilton Twp., NJ at the age of four in 1929. During World War II, Regina joined other "Rosie the Riveters" assembling airplanes at Eastern Aircraft in Ewing, NJ. She attended art school to study art, dressmaking and fashion design, winning awards for her work. She held various management positions in retail and manufacturing, and was an award-winning Avon representative. She joined Trenton bridal designer Yvonne Hillinger, designing and creating original wedding gowns.
Regina was an accomplished lyric soprano, performing in the Arbeiter German singing society and area choirs. She was also Arbeiter's vice president and director of children's programs for many years. She was devoted to classical music and the ballet all her life. She was also an accordianist, providing Hungarian rhapsodies for friends and family.
Regina was active in Farmingdale, Greenwood and Steinert High School PTAs. She was a longtime member and Parish Secretary for Bethel Lutheran Church, and later affiliated with St. Mark Lutheran Church, and Lutheran Church of the Resurrection.
Regina was a wonderful and kind mother, wife, grandmother, daughter and aunt. She will be greatly missed by friends and family.
Regina is predeceased by her parents, Heinrich and Carola Meyer; her late husband, Anthony Matyi; her uncle, Franz Stockler; two aunts, Margarete and Aranka. She is survived by her daughter, Eugenie (Genie) Cox and husband Earl J.; two sons, Anthony H. Matyi, and Mark G. Matyi Sr. and wife Roxanne; five grandchildren, Lisa Regina Gibilisco and husband David, Dana M. Cox and partner Frank Latassa, Renee Mollahan and husband Matthew, Mark G. Matyi Jr. and fiancee' Corie Hilyer, and Hope J. Petrosky; nine great-grandchildren, Christopher D., Michael J. and Steven M. Gibilisco; Tyler C. LaFontain, Zoe N., Sadie P. and Abagail L. Mollahan; Nicolas A. Gindlesperger and Rebecca K. Petrosky; a special cousin, Aranka R. Freimann; a sister-in-law, Helen Spoto, nieces, nephews and a godson, Daniel McKnight.
The family wishes to thank all the many caregivers over the years from Bear Creek Assisted Living, West Windsor and Hamilton Continuing Care for their loving compassion and good humor toward Regina.
