John (Neomonitis) Montis
John (Neomonitis) Montis, 83, of Lawrenceville, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2014 at home.

Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1931, he was the son of George and Anastasia Neomonitis. After the death of his father, he and his mother moved to Trenton. His mother subsequently married John N. Montis, who adopted John.

John was educated in Trenton, New Jersey, graduating from Trenton Central High School; Rutgers University in New Brunswick in 1953; Rutgers Law School in Newark in 1955 with a BA Degree.

He served for two years in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. Upon his discharge in 1955, he opened the law practice of John Montis, Esq. in Trenton and Lawrence Township and practiced for over 50 years.

John was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, the Trenton Chapter of the AHEPA, and a past member of the New Jersey and Mercer County Bar Association.
He enjoyed traveling, horseracing, and summers in Saratoga Springs, as well as visits to Greece to visit relatives.

Predeceased by his stepfather, John Montis and his mother, Anastasia Montis, and his half-brothers, Nicholas and George, he is survived by a nephew, Jonathan of Florida; a niece, Nicole Hathaway of Massachusetts; several cousins; his partner of 40 years, Josephine A. Santin, with whom he resided; and many dear friends.

Funeral will be held on Thursday at 9:45 a.m. at the M. William Murphy Funeral Home 1863 Hamilton Ave., Hamilton, NJ 08619.

Services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church 1200 Klockner Rd., Hamilton, NJ 08619.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton.

Calling hours will be Wednesday evening from 6 9 P.M. at the funeral home. The Trisagion service will be held at 7:30PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church or to the American Cancer Society 2600 US Highway 1, North Brunswick, NJ 08902.
