Elizabeth Jane (Betty) Kiernan
Elizabeth Jane (Betty) Kiernan of Twining Village, Holland PA, previously Ewing NJ, died at age 88 October 13 at Twining Village.
The daughter of William and Anna Huhn, she is survived by her husband of 64 years, Joseph R. Kiernan; five children, Mark V. (Barbara), Jane Hartsough (widow of Michael T.), Annette Lawlor (Richard), J. Randall (Colleen) and Mary Boyle (Eric) She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Matthew and Kyle Hartsough, Grant, Pierce and Luke Lawlor, Moira, Katharine and Caroline Kiernan and Owen Boyle; and by her sister, Mary Baker; brother, William A. Huhn and sister-in-law, Lorraine Huhn and many nieces and nephews and admiring friends.
Born in Philadelphia, she is a 1944 graduate of West Catholic Girls High School. In her early years she worked for The Philadelphia Electric Company. After raising her family she served as parish secretary for Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish, Ewing, retiring in 1988. Throughout her forty years in Ewing, she was active in supporting parish outreach food programs at Good Counsel, especially the preparation of meals distributed to charitable organizations in Trenton and serving others in the community. More than anything, she became known by her life of humble commitment to those in need and in care giving to the activities of her husband, children and grandchildren. One of her husband’s books entitled, Life’s A Guest, was dedicated to Betty as “Life’s perfect hostess whose love inspired this journey”.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 17 from 10AM until the time of her Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM in Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 137 West Upper Ferry Rd. Ewing, NJ 08628. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory are welcomed by Mount Carmel Guild 73 N. Clinton Ave., Trenton NJ 08609.
