Daphane C. Turner ( Dee Dee)
Daphane C. Turner ( Dee Dee) 59, of Trenton, passed on to glory on Friday October 24, 2014 at St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton.
Born September 30, 1955 in Trenton, she was raised in Yardley Borough, PA, and educated in the Lower Bucks County School District. The family relocated to Trenton when she was a teenager and graduated from Trenton High School.
She started her career in teaching as a paraprofessional educator with the Trenton Board of Education working with kindergarten, first and second grade classes in the 70’s. In 1980’s, she became involved with Martin House working in the preschool with Sister Piper and Brother Joe, becoming Assistant Director of the Preschool. After work, she volunteered in the Martin House After school Program working with Fr. Bill, and on Saturday’s she would volunteer at Better Community Housing with Fr. Brian and at the womans clothing store.
She was a member of Holy Cross Church of Christ, and later she attended mass at St. Joseph’s Church. She was an active member of the community in East and North Trenton with getting people to volunteer at Martin House, and making sure that people voted in each election. DeeDee also enjoyed softball and kickball with Concern Citizens of East Trenton.
Preceding her in death son Joseph Welch Jr, parents Albert and Magdalene Turner, siblings Albert Jr., Kirshaw, Royce, Vermell, and Novette Turner, and sister-in-law of the late Benny McRae. She is survived by sons, Tyhese Turner of Trenton NJ, Travis Turner of Long Beach, CA, and Taveras Turner of Levittown, PA. A daughter Aretha (Errick) Wiggins, A sister Andrea McRae of Trenton, NJ, two brothers Juan Turner of Trenton, NJ and Darrit Turner of New Paltz, NY. Four uncles, George Turner of Hamilton, Regiald Turner of South Jersey, Lincoln Turner of Mont Clair. NJ, Dr. Frank Turner of San Diego, CA, and special friends Ronald Ganie, Elaine C. Murphy, Irene Cottone, Mary Hack, Mary Thornton, Mary Pat Bernads, and the late Judy Skeffington, Preston Polnitz and a host of god children, nieces, nephews and a host of other family members.
At our mother’s request, she will be cremated and her ashes scattered in the ocean.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 12 Noon to 9:00 P.M. at 617 Franklin St. Trenton, NJ.
