Joseph D. Mislan
Joseph D. Mislan of Lawrenceville passed away peacefully at home on April 5, surrounded by loving family.

He was born in Trenton on May 14th, 1925, son of the late John and Susan Mislan, and brother of the late Anne Allerton, Mary Smith, Margaret Witschief, and John Mislan.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carol Miller Mislan; his son, David and his wife Kathy of Lexington, MA; daughter, Joanne Sagansky and her husband Peter of Sturbridge, MA; granddaughters, Dr. Hilary Mislan of Worcester, MA, and Libby and Hannah Mislan of New York City; and many nieces and nephews, including Sally and Joseph Bogdan of Ewing, William Allerton of Washington, D.C., Sr. Mary Bilderback of Lakewood, Peter and Jesse Bilderback of Manahawkin, and John Bilderback of Hawaii.

Mr. Mislan graduated from Trenton High School in the class of 1942, served in the US Navy during World War II, and earned his bachelor’s degree from Columbia University School of Engineering in 1948. He owned his own electronics company in Trenton for many years and was awarded several patents in the electronics field. Later in his career, he worked as an engineer in the Department of Defense in Washington, D.C.

In retirement, he was a lifeguard and worked at the fitness center at Princeton University. Always intellectually curious, he was an avid reader and audited classes at Princeton every semester over the last twenty-five years. He enjoyed the arts, and creative pursuits such as woodworking, painting, and sculpture. He particularly enjoyed traveling to New York City to visit his granddaughters for trips to the opera and museums.

The family will receive friends in the Chapel of St. Ann’s Church, 1253 Lawrenceville Rd., Lawrenceville, NJ 08648 on Thursday, April 9th, from 9:30AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30AM. Entombment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Arrangements under the direction of the M. William Murphy Funeral Home, 935 Parkway Ave., Ewing, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Ann’s Church, 1253 Lawrenceville Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648, or to Compassionate Care Hospice Foundation, 248 E. Chestnut Hill Rd., Suite 4, Newark, DE 19713.
