Emilio J. Papa
Emilio J. Papa, 90, of Pennington, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 10, 2015.
Born in Trenton, he was a life long area resident.
Mr. Papa Retired in 1985 from the US Naval Air Propulsion Test Center in Ewing with over 34 years of service. He was a US Army veteran of WWII and a member of the Incarnation /St. James Parish.
During Emilio’s retirement, he spent countless hours giving to others. He dedicated all of his time volunteering for numerous organizations that helped those in need. Much of his time was spent with the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (T.A.S.K.), where he volunteered for more than 35 years and everyone was family to him. He worked tirelessly as a board member, teacher, and mentor driving thousands of miles picking up food and supplies for those less fortunate. He was presented with the TASK Volunteer of the Year award in 1999, and two years ago, the dining room was named in his honor. He worked with the St. Mary’s Cathedral Loaves and Fishes program. He was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Francis Hospital. He was very active with the American Legion Post 93. In 2000, he was the Hamilton Township Council 6213 Knights of Columbus Senior Citizen of the Year. In 2003, he was one of the Times Jefferson Award Recipients. He helped build carnival games that were enjoyed by many local children during church and various organization events.
Emilio was fond of saying “ its not how much you do, but the love you put into it “ . Emilio had great love and respect for all people, but above all else, he loved the Lord.
Son of the late Francisco and Mary Iorio Papa, husband of the late Rose Piu Papa, and brother of the late Lucy Fruscione (Joe), Mary Fruscione (Samuel), Catherine Polizzi (Vincent), Thomas (Emily), John, Frank, Armando (Mary), and Dominic Papa, brother-in-law of the late Dominic Maruca; he is survived by his sister, Lucia Maruca of Morrisville PA, brother and sister-in-law, Anthony and JoAnn Papa of Mays Landing, NJ; three sisters-in-law, Connie Papa, Katherine Papa, and Virginia Papa; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 10:00 am - 12 noon at Incarnation Church 1545 Pennington Rd., Ewing, NJ 08618.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 noon at Incarnation Church.
Entombment will be in St. Mary’s Mausoleum, Hamilton.
Donations in Emilio’s memory may be made to Incarnation – St. James Parish or the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen.
Arrangements are by the M. William Murphy Funeral Home 935 Parkway Ave., Ewing.
