Julia D. Smetanka
Julia D. Smetanka, 92, of Hamilton, passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at home.
Born in Trenton, Julia was a life long resident of the Trenton – Hamilton area.
Julia was a graduate of Trenton Central High School, then later worked as a secretary for the Trenton Board of Education at Junior Two, where she retired after more than 20 years of service. She then became active with Meals on Wheels, was a member of the Woodland’s Book Club, read for the blind at the Marie Katzenbach School in West Trenton, and contributed to various causes.
Daughter of the late Martin and Catherine Corcoran D’Arcy, wife of the late Andrew Smetanka, mother of the late Andrew M. Smetanka, and sister of the late Martin, James, William, Helen, and Catherine, she is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Eileen and Kenneth Matson of Manahawkin, NJ; Nancy and David Alloway of Hamilton; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas S. and Deborah Smetanka of Hamilton; three grandchildren Michele Mullen, Kara Foley, and Christopher Matson; three great grandsons Aidan, Alexander, and Michael Mullen; her special caregiver and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Holy Angels Church on S. Broad St. in Trenton.
Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hamilton.
Calling hours will be Wednesday morning from 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM at the M. William Murphy Funeral Home 1863 Hamilton Ave. in Hamilton. For additional information visit www.murphyfh.com.
