Theresa Dolores Banko Dietrich
Theresa Dolores Banko Dietrich, formerly of Trenton, NJ, died peacefully on December 14th in Langhorne, PA. She was a dearly loved wife and mother.
Born in Trenton on January 30th, 1930, to Mary Keller Banko and Joseph Banko, she graduated from Cathedral High School in 1946 and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Georgian Court College in 1951.
She worked for Thiokol as an analytical chemist, purchasing a pink Plymouth automobile with her earnings.
After marrying attorney William Andrew Dietrich in 1957, she left her job to create a happy home for her husband, three sons and two daughters. During her time home with children, and all throughout her life, she used her considerable intellect to make the world a better place.
She was involved with the League of Women Voters, PTA, and various civic and religious causes over the years. A patient and gifted instructor, she taught in the chemistry lab at Mercer County Community College for several years, forming lifelong friendships. At midlife, she enrolled at University of Pennsylvania and earned a master's degree in gerontology, then utilized this knowledge as head of the Senior Health Insurance Program of the New Jersey Division on Aging.
She was a devoted member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Hamilton, and later Our Lady of Good Counsel in Ewing, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister.
A lifelong learner possessing dry wit and a sharp eye, she was always game for new adventures and enjoyed worldwide travel, the arts, and spending time with her family and many friends.
Her beloved husband of 42 years preceded her in death, as did her brother, Joseph P. Banko, Jr.
She is survived by her children, William Andrew Dietrich, Jr. of Barcelona, Spain, Christopher Carl Dietrich, of Pennington, NJ, Jane Dietrich Fuqua and her husband, John, of Zionsville, IN, Carol Dietrich Macrini and her husband Marc, of Pipersville, PA, and Daniel Paul Dietrich and his wife, Dorothy of South Orange, NJ; and four grandsons, William Anderson Fuqua, Stephen Price Fuqua and his wife, Kasey, Christopher Cook Fuqua and his wife, Heather, and George Daniel Dietrich; her sister, Pat Morgan and her husband, Bill, of Washington DC.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 30th from 9:30 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 137 W. Upper Ferry Road, West Trenton.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30AM.
Burial will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Trenton.
