Charles E. Stokes, III
Charles E. Stokes, III, passed away Tuesday, January 19, at Pennswood Village, in Newtown, PA.
Charlie was born March 7, 1930, to the late Margaret and Charles Stokes, in Trenton, NJ. He attended Princeton Country Day School and was a graduate of The Lawrenceville School, and Yale University. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955.
He was a past president and owner of the Home Rubber Company, a Trenton company founded by his great grandfather in 1881. Charlie generously gave back to his community by volunteering as chairman of the Trenton Chapter of the American Red Cross, and served as a board member of The Trenton Savings Bank, Trenton Trust, Mercer Medical Center, Skytop Club, Trenton Rotary, and the Trenton Symposium.
An avid tennis player, Charlie played tennis for both The Lawrenceville School and Yale University. He enjoyed his regular Sunday golf foursome at the Trenton Country Club and was a devotee of old movies and a fervent Phillies fan.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sister Margaret Stokes (Jack) Whitehead. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara Kauffman Stokes; three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Joseph Thompson of Madison, WI, Carol and William Stokes-Cawley of Skaneateles, NY, and Jane and Philip Lange of Rochester, NY; seven grandchildren, Alexandra Lange, Julia (Mark) Minutaglio, Kathleen Thompson, Charlie Thompson, Lizzy Stokes-Cawley, Bryan Stokes-Cawley, and Owen Stokes-Cawley.
The family would like to thank the staff of Woolman House at Pennswood Village for the care and love they showed Charlie over the last four years.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 1 – 2pm at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 47 W Afton Ave, Yardley, PA 19067. A Memorial Service will begin at 2PM.
Burial in Ewing Church Cemetery, for family only, will take place at a later date.

Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the American Red Cross or to the Cadwalader Park tennis program of National Junior Tennis & Learning of Trenton (NJTL of Trenton), 949 W. State St., Trenton, NJ 08618.
