Evelyn J. Rose
Evelyn J. Rose, 89, entered eternal life Tuesday February 9, 2016. Her spirit is carried on by her four children, nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren and six surviving siblings along with extended family of relations and friends.
Born in Trenton on September 14, 1926, she was a lifelong resident. This is where she met her neighbor, the love of her life Kenneth Rose at 16 years old and married him at 19 years old. Together for 47 years until his death on April 5, 1993.
We were blessed with valuable lessons from our mother during her 89 years, among them: It’s always better to be over-dressed then under-dressed; Always have a full refrigerator to feed any pop in guest (of which she had many); Never throw out old bread when you can feed it to the birds; Keep your house, sidewalks and streets clean, be proud; Take every opportunity to talk to everyone and smile; Always remember everything will work out; The biggest lesson was to live with strength...insurmountable strength.
Our mother’s home was just that...a home, not a house. Anyone who had the pleasure to step inside felt the warmth and love immediately. She was always there for so many without any hesitation or expectation of reciprocation. Our mother would say she has always been the richest person alive. She had the love of her life, four children she wanted and the most wonderful grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a beautiful women, a beautiful soul, sophisticated, elegant, sweet, feisty, strong minded, tough, nurturing, passionate, funny, with a great sense of humor, full of love and would tell it straight.
Daughter of the late Rudolph and Mildred (Sweeney-Robbins) Hillman, wife of the late Kenneth J. Rose, Sr., and grandmother of the late Mitchell Tkacs II, she is survived by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Son, Kenneth J. Rose II (wife, Penny Luca; children, Kelli and Ashley; great grandchildren of Ashley and husband Will, Isabella and Emry; step grandchildren, Thomas and Peter and step great grandson, Owen ); son, Kevin P. Rose (wife Lisa; children, Justin, Brandon and Connor); daughter, Maureen Rose-Ice (children, Mark II and Misty; great granddaughter of Misty, McKenna); daughter, Sharon ( husband Roger; children, Veronica, Melissa and the late Mitchell II ); Siblings, Freda, Carol, Joan, Chuck, Henry and Robert. Many in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends and family, and admirers too numerous to list but not forgotten.
Evelyn is reunited with her husband (and favorite dance partner and political debate partner); her grandson, Mitchell II; and eight predeceased siblings ( Patricia, Audrey, Barbara, Nancy, Richard, Donald, Rudolph, and Herbert ).
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, do something our mother/ grandmother/ great grandmother would do....Help and be there for your family, friend and neighbor.
Arrangements are under the direction of the M. William Murphy Funeral Home, 935 Parkway Ave., Ewing.
