Joan Gail Whalen
Joan Gail Whalen, 73, of Ewing Township, passed away on Monday, February 15, 2016 at Chandler Hall in Newtown, PA.

Born in Trenton, Joan was a life long area resident.

a Trenton Central High School graduate - class of 1960, she began work for the State of New Jersey when she was eighteen years old. Forty eight years and many lifelong friends later, she retired from the Division of Taxation. Since her retirement, she was active in the Ewing Senior Citizens Club A.

Joan always cared for and about those around her. She was the first to offer her time, her service or transportation to anyone in need. In recent years, she got to travel. She visited such places as Alaska, Spain, Italy, Israel and Ireland among others. She was an avid cat lover and leaves behind two rescues, Snickers and Snuggles.

Daughter of the late Charles W. and Wilhemina (Helen) Walter Whalen, she is survived by many cousins including, Gloria Lechowicz of Pennington, Ronald (Barbara) Lenczewski of WA, Gloria (John) O’Donnell of Boothwyn, PA, Jeffrey (Dawn) Lechowicz of Dublin, PA, Nancy( Leonard) Bernstein of Sandy, UT, Ronald J. (Carolyn) Lenczewski of Yardville, Michael (Robert) Lenczewski of WA; and many other beloved cousins and friends. “Aunt Joan” will be missed by Hunter, Brianna, Evan, Reid, Christian, Taylor, Dylan and Lori.

Calling hours will be held Thursday from 6-9 PM at the M. William Murphy Funeral Home 935 Parkway Ave., Ewing, NJ 08618.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 AM at St. James Catholic Church Chapel, 6 Eglantine Ave., Pennington, NJ 08534.

Burial will follow at Fountain Lawn Memorial Park, Eggerts Crossing Rd., Lawrenceville, NJ.

Donations in Joan’s memory, may be made to the ASPCA Humane Society (please make your check payable to The HSUS) 2100 L Street, NW, Washington, DC 20037 or to St. James Church, 115 East Delaware Ave, Pennington, NJ 08534.
