Mary Angela Spezzano Brennan
Mary Angela Spezzano Brennan of West Trenton passed away at home on June 25, 2016, surrounded by her loving family.
Born January 12, 1921 in Trenton, NJ, she resided in West Trenton for 57 years.
Mary graduated from Trenton High School and was employed by the State of NJ, Division of Criminal Justice; proudly serving as the first executive secretary to the former NJSP Superintendent Norman Schwartkopf, Sr. During her tenure with the State, she was also the executive secretary for several Attorney Generals. She retired in 1981 and enjoyed 35 years of retirement. During this time, she remained active as a member of Ewing Seniors Club A and Our Lady of Good Counsel Seniors. She enjoying reading, crossword puzzles, crocheting, needlepoint and watching Steve Harvey on TV.
She was predeceased by her parents Francesco and Lucia Pesce Spezzano, her loving husband Joseph A. Brennan (who affectionately referred to her as Queenie), two brothers Salvatore and James Spezzano, and one sister, Louise Calderone.
Mary is survived by her loving daughter Kathleen A. Brennan Hoarn, grandsons and their spouses Christopher and Annmarie Hoarn, Kevin and Kelly Hoarn, great grandson Zachary Hoarn, and many nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by a loving and devoted sister-in-law Louise Spezzano, who called Mary daily, and shared numerous vacations with her. Louise spent the final week of Mary’s life at her bedside.
Mary’s family would like to thank her caregivers, Olive Scott, Beverly Simpson, Kathleen Carroo, Marva Wilson, and Sonia Cole. These caring people took care of Mary 24 hours a day for the past 3 years. The family would also like to acknowledge and thank the staff of Holy Redeemer Hospice.
The funeral will be held at 8:30 am on Friday, July 1st, at M. William Murphy Funeral Home, 935 Parkway Ave, Ewing, NJ 08618.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Friday, July 1st, at St. James Catholic Church 115 East Delaware Ave, Pennington, NJ 08534.
Burial will follow in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery in Hamilton, NJ.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, June 30th, from 5-8 pm at the funeral home.
