Spiros (Philip) Livanis
Spiros (Philip) Livanis, 90, of Bordentown City passed away Sunday at Capital Health System – Hopewell Campus.
Born in Bordentown, he was a lifelong Bordentown resident, and a graduate of William MacFarland High School.
In 1958, Mr. Livanis founded Lavan’s Coffee Blender & Roaster of Fine Coffees in Bordentown and was owner until retiring in 2006.
Mr. Livanis was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church originally located on Mercer St. in Trenton. He dedicated his life and sacrificed time, effort, and family to give to the project of building the new church. Phil was instrumental on finding the property, starting the project, working with the parish boards and councils, and the community at large, and tirelessly fundraising to see the project come to fruition. They built the Community Center followed by the church. He was also a member of AHEPA, and former President of the Board of Trustees.
He held the title of Archon, an honor in the Order of St. Andrew of the Patriarchate.
He was a Navy veteran of WWII.
Son of the late Gerisimos and Mary Arvanitis Livanis, and husband of the late Pearl he is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Christine E. and Constantine A. Bardos of Columbus; 1 nephew, James P. Bardos; 1 niece, Victoria Ann Bardos; many friends and community members in Trenton, Bordentown and New York.
Viewing hours will be held at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1200 Klockner Road, Hamilton on Thursday from 7 – 9pm with Trisagion Services held at 8:00 PM, and Friday from 10 -11AM. Funeral Service will be Friday 11am at St. George Greek Orthodox Church. Entombment will be in the family mausoleum in Greenwood Cemetery.
Arrangements under the direction of the M. William Murphy Funeral Home, 1863 Hamilton Ave. Hamilton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church.
