Lawrence E. (Larry) Mulligan
Lawrence E. (Larry) Mulligan, 89, son of the late Rose and Raymond Mulligan, was born in Palmerton, PA July 17th, 1927.
Larry enlisted in the US Army-Air Force after his graduation from Jim Thorpe High School (formerly East Mauch Chunk HS) and served from Oct. 1944 to Nov. 1946. After the service, he entered Kutztown College where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Education and later received a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Pennsylvania.
He taught art at Ewing High School for 37 years as well as 2 years at Notre Dame High School and ended his career at the Hun school. He also spent many years involved in the Ewing HS summer theatre program building and designing the sets for the school plays as well as several productions at the Washington Crossing Open Air Theatre. He also taught Ewing adult art classes for years as well as participating in the summer arts programs at Fisher Middle School.
After retiring from teaching, his other passion was singing with the Garden Statesmen Barbershop Group, of which he was a member for more than 19 years.
Larry has always had a passion for art and his family, and though he never spent much time displaying his own talents in his artwork, he has influenced and inspired the lives of so many of his students for several generations. Larry has left his mark on the community with the work he has done during his teaching career and serving as Chair of the Art Department as well as the many years and countless hours he devoted to the Art Program at Ewing HS.
Two of his brothers pre-deceased him, Raymond and Frank.
He leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Millie; their six children, Patti Mulligan, Barry and his wife Sue, Kenny and his wife Julie, Denise Zuczek, Shawn and his wife Barbara, and Brian and his wife Kim; his 15 grandchildren, Jason, Kayleen Gibbs and her husband TJ, Kevin, Jordan, Nicole, Elissa, Victor, Justin, Madison, Zack, Leann, Jared, Noah, Brooke and Mia; his siblings, Rose Marie Smith-Tich, Bernie and his wife KayAnne and Kathleen Mulligan.
