Charles Donald “Don” Smith
Charles Donald “Don” Smith, Sr., 92, of Pennington, passsed away peacefully on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at RWJ Compassionate Care Hospice in Hamilton, with his loving family by his side.

Don was a graduate of Trenton Central High School and Temple University. He was a veteran of WWII who served in the 8th Air Corp, where he was awarded the European Service Medal with 4 Bronze Battle Stars, and the Purple Heart.

He had a long career with the US Postal Service as Fleet Manager of Motor Vehicles for Central Jersey.

Don was a life member of the Pennington Road Fire Company, where he served as Trustee and Fire Police Officer, the Veteran of Foreign Wars, and the Disabled American Veterans. He also served as Treasurer/ Treasurer Emeritus for the Pennington Point Condo Association.

Son of the late Frederick and Mary Smith, and brother of the late Wilson and Norman Smith, he is survived by his wife of 69 years, Anna C. Burroughs Smith; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Chuck Heenan, and Carol and Chris Hanson; his son and daughter-in-law, Don and Mary Smith; his seven grandchildren, Pam Heenan, Holly Heenan (Mark Mason), Katie (Jeremey) Dugan, Michael Smith, Kevin Smith, Lisa Greenemeir, Steven (Kate) Hanson; his seven great grandchildren, Rachel, Logan, Natalee, Charleigh, Matthew, Mitchell, and Gavin; his brother, John “Jack” Smith; his sister-in-law, Joan Smith; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Calling hours will be Wednesday evening from 6 8 PM at the M. William Murphy Funeral Home 935 Parkway Ave. in Ewing.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church 137 West Upper Ferry Rd. West Trenton.

Burial will follow at Ewing Cemetery, Scoth Rd. in Ewing.

Donations may be made in Don’s memory to the Pennington First Aid Squad 110 Broemel Place Pennington, NJ 08534.
