Laura Hughes, 88, of Hamilton, affectionately known as “Auntie, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2016 at Compassionate Care Hospice at RWJUHat Hamilton.
Born in Dublin, Ireland, Laura came to the United States in 1954 and was a longtime Hamilton resident.
She was employed for Westinghouse in Trenton for 15 years, and later an Agencies Services Assistant for the State of New Jersey, Lottery Commission, retiring in 1998 after 15 years of service.
Daughter of the late James and Maria Jervis Leonard, mother of the late John Leonard , and sister of the late Georgina McKnight, she is survived by three nieces (whom were like daughters to her), Laura and Steven Sciortino, Maria and Henry Kotelnicki, and Helen and Robert McNally, all of Hamilton; three nephews, Freddy and Lorraine McKnight, Stanley and Noeleen McKnight, and Sydney and Donna McKnight, all of Ireland; and many great nieces and great nephews (who were like grandchildren to her), Justin, Ryan, and Erinn Kotelnicki, Steven and Kyle Sciortino, Keira McNally, Jennifer, David, Mark, Siobhan, Eric, Georgina, Rebecca, and Aimee McKnight.
Calling hours will be Thursday evening from 6 – 8 PM at the M. William Murphy Funeral Home 1863 Hamilton Ave. in Hamilton.
Funeral will be held on Friday at 9:45 AM at the funeral home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00 AM at St. Raphael’s Church, South Broad Street in Hamilton.
Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Cedar Lane in Hamilton.
