John A. Caltagirone
John A. Caltagirone, 89, of Yardville, passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at home with his loving family by his side.
A Navy veteran of WWII, John was born in Trenton and was a lifelong area resident.
He was a Registry Clerk for the United States Post Office in Trenton, and Hamilton, retiring in 1982 with more than 35 years of service.
John was a former member of St. James Roman Catholic Church on East Paul Ave. in Trenton, and a current member of St. Vincent De Paul Church in Yardville. He was also a member of the San Cologero Society, the Veterans of America, and an Honorary Citizen of Boys Town. John enjoyed trips to Atlantic City, playing cards, watching movies, reading (which he had a collection of between 2,000 and 3,000 books), and loved watching the “Days of our Lives” with his beloved wife of 64 years, the late Connie, which he hasn’t watched since her passing in 2013.
He was an avid fan of Frank Sinatra, the NY Yankees, the Chicago Cubs, and the Oakland Raiders.
Most of all, he loved Sunday dinners with his family and swimming with all his beloved grandchildren at their home.
Son of the late Anna (Capodici) and Carmelo Caltagirone, Sr., husband of the late Constance “Connie” (Damiano) Caltagirone, father-in-law of the late Michael Biase, and brother of the late Carmelo Caltagirone, Jr., Joseph P. Caltagirone, and Rosalie A. Huber, he is survived by his son, Carmen Caltagirone of Hamilton; his three daughters and one son-in-law, Anna and Pasquale Papero of Hamilton, Tommasina Biase of Hamilton, and Antonia “Toni” Haney of Yardville (who resided with him and her children); a daughter-in-law, Maria Ricci; a son-in-law, Brian Haney; 12 grandchildren Maria (Kevin) Colgan, Pat (Stacy) Papero, Jr., Anthony (Kara) Papero, Michael (Kristina) Papero, Joseph Ricci, Michael (Valerie) Biase, Antoinette (Mario) Carbone, Anthony (Jessica) Haney, Lisa (Matt) Haney, John Caltagirone, Rose Emma (Matt) Biase, and Kevin Haney;13 great grandchildren; three brothers-in-law, Armando Damiano, Thomas (Eileen) Damiano, Joseph Damiano, three sisters-in-law, Theresa Damiano, Marie Cooper, and Anna Reise; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, cousins, and many friends, including family friend, Eileen Catanese.
Calling hours will be Tuesday evening from 6 – 9PM at the M. William Murphy Funeral Home 1863 Hamilton Ave. in Hamilton.
Funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 9:15 AM at the funeral home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday 11:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Church, Yardville.
Burial will follow in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Cedar Lane in Hamilton.
