Howard James (Jim) Phillips, Sr.
Howard James (Jim) Phillips, Sr. passed away on Monday at his home after battling pulmonary fibrosis with his usual courage and insistent humor.
Born in Morrisville, PA on October 26, 1932, his parents were Walter Ives and Viola Phillips from Cork, Ireland. He was a graduate of Morrisville High School and attended Rider University. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.
He was first employed by U.S. Steel, Sun Oil, and Thiokol Chemical, finally retiring from the New Jersey State Judiciary after 30 years of service. In his retirement, he worked as a starter and ranger for the County of Mercer at Mountain View golf course.
He lived in Ewing Township, NJ for 50 years with his wife, the late Joan (Calabrese) Phillips, and was a member of Our Lady of Good Council Church, and served on the Scudder Falls Civic Association.
He is survived by his sons, Howard James Phillips, Jr. and his much loved daughter-in-law, Laura Ngan Phillips, and David James Phillips. He has 3 grand-children, Conor James Phillips, Carl Davis Phillips, and Cameron Michael Phillips,
Jim will be greatly missed, but always loved by everyone, most especially his companion Maryanne Hall, a loving and devoted member of our family in his later years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10AM in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 137 West Upper Ferry Road, West Trenton, NJ 08628. Followed by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hamilton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 3331 Street Road, Suite 410, Bensalem, PA 19020.
