Rita Holliday Estrella
Rita Holliday Estrella of Lawrenceville passed away on Saturday at St. Joseph’s Skilled Nursing at Morris Hall.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, she lived most of her life in Trenton and later Mercerville before moving to Morris Hall 6 years ago.
Mrs. Estrella was a graduate of Sacred Heart Grammar School, Cathedral High School and took courses at Rutgers University, Rider College and NJ State College.
She was a 42 year employee of the State of NJ – Division of Motor Vehicles retiring in 1982 as Chief of the Bureau of Security Responsibility.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church Rosary-Altar Society, Mt. Carmel Guild, AARP, Cathedral Alumni Association, NJ DMV Retirees Association and the YMCA, Hamilton. Mrs. Estrella also volunteered with the Mt. Carmel Guild, Sacred Heart Church and was a tutor of English at the Trenton Diocese Haitian Center.
Daughter of the late Oliver A. and Mary McNamara Holliday, wife of the late John H. Estrella, Jr., sister of the late Joseph and John M. Estrella, Sr., sister-in-law of the late Mary Hutchinson, Gertude Breeman, Jean Schoffield and Madeline Estrella, she is survived by her son, John T. Estrella of Freeport, TX; sister-in-law, Lorraine Holliday, cousins including Joan B. Carlin of Ewing, Frank Brady of Lambertville, Mary C. Komjathy of Ewing, and Anne C. Spedding of Ewing; also, nieces and nephews and their families.
The family will receive friends on Saturday at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel, Morris Hall, One Bishops’ Drive, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648 from 10:30AM until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hamilton.
Arrangements are under the direction of the M. William Murphy Funeral Home 935 Parkway Ave., Ewing, NJ 08618.
